Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust: Expert reporting
NHS Trust pursues best practice reporting
The Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust is responsible for around 100 buildings. With complex greenhouse gas reporting requirements coming from both the NHS and central government, the Trust has a strong desire for high-quality, transparent reporting. However, this is a large, complex organisation that has changed significantly over time, and all the data has thus far been managed by a lone employee. The Trust engaged Carbon Smart to assess their carbon footprint data gathering and reporting procedures, and to help bring them in line with best practice.
Transparency and accuracy improved
Jack’s experience in NHS reporting for University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust and Oxford University made him the obvious choice to lead the project.
Jack reviewed the Trust’s data gathering and reporting procedures. Carbon Smart has a deep understanding of best practice reporting from our work managing sustainability reporting for all 21 central government departments, and using this experience we made practical, straightforward suggestions to make the process more robust, reliable and in line with best practice reporting standards. Our unique knowledge of corporate reporting and government carbon footprint calculation requirements meant we could give clear direction on where efforts would yield the best results in improved transparency and accuracy.
Since completing this work, the Trust has appointed Carbon Smart to put their data onto our online GreenGauge reporting system to make the calculation process much simpler; this will allow the Trust to focus on how to report their carbon footprint, rather than how to calculate it.
Jack acted as a trusted advisor and critical friend to the client, expertly guiding them through the path to best practice. We’ll be keeping a close eye on next year’s reporting to make sure our actions have made tangible improvements.
