Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) commissioned us to run a national wide survey of waste management across a variety of the Group’s business sites.
Interactive media guru, CNET Networks became concerned with the impact that they were having on the environment. Carbon Smart assisted them in understanding their carbon footprint and identify practical ways that to decrease the effect they were having.

The organisation approached Carbon Smart for support on improving their environmental performance, particularly with reference to their fleet. Their aim was to become London’s greenest contractor, and they have made great strides in that direction.

Rathbone Brothers Plc is a leading independent provider of investment and wealth management services for private investors, charities and trustees in the UK. As part of the organisation’s commitment to continuously improving their CSR reporting process, Rathbones decided to engage Carbon Smart to help them produce a more complete annual report which would be satisfactory to all stakeholders.
Threadneedle is a global asset manager serving pension schemes, insurance companies, private investors, mutual funds and associated companies. Threadneedle focus on creating the best possible returns for their clients. As part of Threadneedle’s commitment to creating a culture infused with high standards, improving environmental performance was the next big step. Threadneedle engaged Carbon Smart to help them calculate their carbon footprint and generate a list of key areas for action.
EcoSecurities engaged Carbon Smart to independently verify its carbon footprint (scopes 2 and 3) for 2008 against the WRI GHG Protocol following the assurance steps as defined by the AA1000 Assurance Standard (AA1000AS).
OPM made a commitment in July 2006 to take responsibility for their contribution to climate change. To improve their environmental performance they decided to have their carbon footprint calculated and take the necessary practical actions to reduce this, thereby reducing their energy bills and other resource costs. They have worked with us since then to achieve Carbon Smart Blue, Silver and Gold, as well as ISO 9001 and 14001.
Established in 1998, Aura Stationery is an independent office products dealer based in Reading, supplying the commercial market with office equipment. Aura engaged with the Carbon Smart So Go Eco Programme in 2008 and has now achieved the Gold level of the certification programme.
St Mungo’s is a well-respected charity whose mission is to house, support and care for vulnerable and excluded people who either have been, or are at risk of, sleeping rough and homelessness.
Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) has a long established set of environmental, ethical and social performance targets and policies. These were recently reviewed and the bank decided to aim for more ambitious performance as RBS looked to extend its sustainability approach into its supply base. RBS has a comprehensive sourcing and procurement strategy. The challenge was to embed sustainability principles into the existing operation with minimal disruption.
In recognition of the impact of its operations on the environment and to honour its own commitment to integrating environmental best practice into all its business operation, the Secretariat commissioned Carbon Smart to assess the environmental impacts of its supply chain and to introduce sustainability into the organisation’s procurement processes.
OFDA is an office supplies group made up of the UK’s top independent dealers. The So-Go-Eco Programme is a wide reaching sustainability scheme aiming to assess and award Office Friendly dealers across the UK with the Carbon Smart Certification. Tailored specifically for the office supplies industry, Carbon Smart and OFDA have been working together to improve the environmental performance of dealers, particularly focussing on energy consumption, waste management and fleet vehicles.
The British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF) represents some of the 8, 000 printing manufacturers in the UK, industry which is the 5th largest contributor to national GDP. As the industry uses a raft of chemicals the BPIF were keen to engage Carbon Smart to ensure their members managed potentially harmful chemical and precious paper resources in the most responsible way possible. The program – funded by the EU via the London Development Agency (LDA) is free to project participants and is a unique chance for London SMEs to gain credible advice and marketing potential.
