Rathbone Brothers Plc is a leading independent provider of investment and wealth management services for private investors, charities and trustees in the UK. As part of the organisation’s commitment to continuously improving their CSR reporting process, Rathbones decided to engage Carbon Smart to help them produce a more complete annual report which would be satisfactory to all stakeholders.

Process
With two years of measuring their carbon footprint under their belt, Rathbones are still refining their environmental data collection and monitoring processes. As the company itself changes over time, adding new office locations and removing assets from the reporting scope, the carbon footprinting method also needs to be updated to take these changes into account. Carbon Smart worked with Rathbones to both manage the scope of reporting and improve their reporting, ensuring accuracy and comparability of the final results. Carbon Smart helped Rathbones present these results in their Corporate Responsibility report to ensure that they were delivered in a transparent manner, accessible to all stakeholders.
Success
Rathbones was nominated for the ICSA Hermes Transparency in Governance Award for the 2009 Corporate Responsibility report. This year’s report will build on lessons learned from previous years’ success to deliver a high quality report able to engage the company’s stakeholders. Rathbones are additionally putting Carbon Smart’s recommendations into action, conducting site surveys and seeking to reduce emissions where practical and possible.
